Familienplatz Trub

Design of Information Boards, Trub

I was lucky enough to do the design of the information boards in the centre of the picturesque village Trub. This village happens to be the native place of over 50'000 people, even though today it has only around 700 inhabitants. Most of the people whose paper state "Trub" as the native place have moved abroad in the 18th and 19th century - a majority of them to the US. Many of the descendants of these people are nowadays doing research on their family roots. This public space helps them in their search, portraying 5 of the most common surnames: Beer, Fankhauser, Habegger, Siegenthaler and Wüthrich. It's a rich collection of family anecdotes reaching back in the 19th century but also documenting members of the families today. The design should fit the rural, traditional environment while at the same time being attractive and modern to visitors. I chose warm, not too bright colors, highlighting one hue on each panel. As a background for all boards we chose a nicely textured old pergament paper. The text elements are simple, with highlights in color. The majority of the pictures are old and some of them are not made by professional photographers but merely portray the natural daily life of the farmers and their families.

The public space has been opened on 12.12.2014 and is accessible all year round. The space as well as the beautiful village are well worth a visit, maybe combined with a visit of the local market, which takes place every last Saturday in the month between April and October - check this page for the dates.
