Mit dem Motorrad von Thailand in die Schweiz

From Thailand to Switzerland by Motorbike

From September 2012 we traveled during 1 year from Thailand back to Switzerland - when ever possible over land - two people on one motorbike (Honda Transalp), with all of our luggage, tent and cooking stuff. After a loop in Southeastasia we explored the Indian Subcontinent, then traveled through the Orient, and then drove towards Switzerland through Eastern Europe. Because of geographical or geopolitical reasons we had to ship the motorbike two times: Once from Thailand to India, the second time from India to Dubai. We wrote these blogposts during our journey. If you have questions about our journey or one of the regions, don't hesitate to get in touch. We're looking forward to hearing from you!

Crazy Dubai

UAE: 02.06.2013

Culture shock: a briefly planned stopover in Dubai lasts longer than expected, we accept it and discover many facets of this crazy desert city that seems ahead of its time.

A Change of Plan

Oman: 13.06.2013

Yes, the headline is correct: We are not in Iran but in Oman. Not that the ferry got lost, it is more the political instability in Iran that is to blame for the fact that we have to wait until after the elections to start our onward journey.

Tradition and Modernity

Oman: 18.06.2013

It is not without reason that the sea is called the Gulf of Oman here. In the small coastal town of Sur, beautiful wooden sailing ships are still built like 100 years ago.

In the Hinterland of Nizwa

Oman: 22.06.2013

In and around Nizwa we learn more about the culture and history of Oman. In addition, we are always impressed by the breathtaking views and take the opportunity to explore the most spectacular landscapes by motorcycle.

We finally made it!

Iran: 30.06.2013

We eagerly awaited it, the second attempt to enter Iran. The road is long, the formalities grueling - but Iran welcomes us with a warmth and cordiality that is definitely worth all the efforts.

Fascinating Yazd and Esfahan

Iran: 09.07.2013

From one of the oldest cities we travel on to one of the most beautiful cities in the world. In Yazd as in Esfahan, we enjoy every moment and learn more and more about this fascinating country.

Hospitality in the Hinterland

Iran: 17.07.2013

The diversity of this beautiful country is shown to us like a play on stage as we drive through northern Iran: The hot desert city of Kashan, the cool green valley of Alamut, the Dead Sea-like climate in a basin near the Caspian Sea and then the green river valley on the way to Tabriz.

At the Gates of Europe

Turkey: 25.07.2013

As we pass country after country, the time passes with us. Our 13th country also marks the transition to Europe - but for the time being we are still in Asia, more precisely in Anatolia, in eastern Turkey. Warm hospitality, a language that oftentimes sounds very cute to us and breathtaking nature wait for us again.

Mass Tourism in Cappadocia

Turkey: 29.07.2013

There are still some beautiful spots hidden in the hilly landscape of Eastern Turkey. The landscape becomes bizarre at our next stop: volcanic landscape, weathered rock formations and underground cities built into the soft stone by early Christians as a refuge from persecution.

On Country Roads to Istanbul

Turkey: 04.08.2013

From Cappadocia, a two-day trip takes us to Istanbul and thus back to Europe. There, we prepare for the last part of our trip and enjoy the big city life.

Looking back...on the Orient

Summary: 06.08.2013

What started with quite some turbulences, ends happily and with many beautiful memories. We look back on our journey through the UAE, Oman, Iran and Eastern Turkey.
